Achondroplasia/ Hypochondroplasia

Achondroplasia
75% of short stature is caused by achondroplasia, but it is quite rare, occurring in 1 of every 500,000 people. Achondroplasia is due to a mutation in the fibroblast growth factor receptor 3 (FGFR3) gene.
It causes many problems in orthopaedics. Average height is 130cm in males and 125cm in females, and they have relatively short arms and legs.
In addition to this, their soft tissues are plentiful and flexible, which are good conditions for lengthening procedures. There are several things to consider:
In achondroplasia, the factors above should be considered in lengthening surgery. Lengthening in achondroplasia is not the same with typical stature lengthening. We consider how much correction can be done with lengthening.
Ideal treatment periods are decided based on length and target height. Arm lengthening is completed with one surgery.
An important factor for children is school; it is difficult to attend school during treatment. Parents and the medical team should discuss such matters in-depth.
Short Stature and Deformity due to Achondroplasia were treated by Humerus Lengthening, Tibial and Femoral Lengthening.
