Joint Contracture

JointContracture
Joints are moving structures, and they harden if not moved for certain amounts of time because surrounding muscles and soft tissues lose flexibility.
It is similar to when our joints become ‘stiff’ after wearing braces for some time. In any operation, joint mobility is decreased after surgery and joint contracture may occur if this condition continues.
Limb lengthening surgery has a higher risk of joint contracture compared to general surgery. Muscle resistance is increased as the bone is lengthened.
That is why we emphasize the importance of stretching. We should carefully manage temporary joint contracture phenomena (ballerina foot, knee contracture) during lengthening. If it is not managed well, it could leave a permanent disability. To prevent joint contracture in limb lengthening, precise and professional surgery are essential and good aftercare is important.
If you have joint contracture, even after expected recovery time,
talk to Donghoon Advanced Limb Lengthening Reconstruction Institute. We will assess every possible factor such as sports ability recovery after surgery, nerve injury, etc.
